On 29th July the Chattisgarh police gunned down Podia Hemla-an innocent tribal in the Nahadi village of Dantewada district in a fake encounter. Human rights activist Swami Agnivesh condemned it and termed it as ‘Police terrorism’ holding the IG of Bastar SRP Kalluri responsible for it.
Swami Agnivesh applauded the efforts of tribal leader Soni Sori and tribal media person Lingaram Kodopi for uniting thousands of ‘Adivasi’ youth against police barbarism. He further reiterated that by issuing statements against them IG Kalluri, it seems is also preparing grounds for their encounter. Earlier in his deposition before the Judicial Investigation Commission of the Tadmetla attack Swami Agnivesh had accused Kalluri of the murderous assault on his life in March 2011 when he was the SP of Dantewada. This attack had also left some media persons injured. To calm down the public anger, Chief Minister Shri Raman Singh had transferred Kalluri to Sarguja from Dantewada and then inexplicably he was made the IG of the entire Bastar region. It is because of IG Kalluri that the Judicial Commission has not been able to complete its job and nor has the CBI (appointed by the Hon’ble Supreme Court) been able to do much.
In the light of these facts Swami Agnivesh has demanded suspension of IG Kalluri and asked for a strict legal action against him.
