Declare PK tax-free: Swami Agnivesh

NEW DELHI, Dec.30 ,2014 : Noted human rights activist and revolutionary social reformer Swami Agnivesh has welcomed the message conveyed against superstitious believes and false hero worship in the name of religion in the Aamir Khan starrer Hindi film PK.

In fact, he has advocated for exempting the film from payment of entertainment tax, as the movie with the new message, is bound to benefit millions of students across the country and encourage scientific temperament among them. The hue and cry made by some of the so called religious leaders like Swami Ramdev, Swami Swaroopanand Shankracharya,  Maulana Firangi Mahal and other religious outfits like VHP, Bajrang Dal, Jamat-E-Islami Hind might be ignored as the film’s basic storyline questions exploitation of devotees and followers  in the name of religion and unbelievable rituals and customs. It is natural that such religious leaders and institutions are bound to get threatened for their survival as the movie hits out at the blind faith.

Agnivesh congratulated the bold stand taken by the Central Board of Film Certification Chairperson Leela Samson in firmly rejecting any sort of review of screening certificate given to the film despite pressures mounted on the Board by the religious fundamentalists. The film, a new attempt to highlight the wrong  religious believes, is in fact appreciated by none other than BJP senior leader L.K. Advani himself, the revolutionary Swamiji said.

The film has reiterated what Vedas and Upanishads have upheld and what great reformers like Maharishi Dayanand, Kabeer, Guru Nanak, Tukaram and Narayana Guru stood for. Swami Dayanand’s magnum opus Satyarth Prakash or Light of Truth is a testament of Truth against obscurantism of all faiths and is a torch bearer for ages to come. PK is a humble attempt to put these ideas in celluloid for entertainment, he added.
